LAGOON CATAMARAN OWNERS TEAM UP TO FIGHT MARINE POLLUTION
Lagoon has teamed up with AnimaMundi and DJI, in a bid to tackle the ever-increasing pollution problem in our oceans.

The goal is to equip Lagoon catamaran owners with repurposed DJI drones and use them to measure plastic waste on Caribbean coastlines. This is a big step in climate change technology and one that could turn the tide on the environmental disasters we are experiencing in our oceans.
Using this method of waste mapping gives crucial data and provides evidence on whether our actions to reduce the plastic in our oceans are leading to a reduction in pollution on our coastlines. Building the first comprehensive global database of plastic waste on our coastlines brings us one step closer to solving the growing environmental emergency we are faced with and helps us define future actions that need to be taken.
HOW TECHNOLOGY IS BEING USED IN THE FIGHT FOR CHANGE
AnimaMundi, meaning ‘the soul of the earth’ is a non-profit organization based in Geneva Switzerland. It announced its partnership with Lagoon and DJI on November 22, 2021, with the intention of bringing its next-generation artificial intelligence, computer vision, and object recognition technologies to the fight against marine pollution.
It has developed software to automatically record, count, and register the presence and number of plastic bottles on our shores in real-time, making ocean waste mapping possible. This invaluable tool promises accurate, instant data, in a world where big-time data is king and it allows us to make careful investment decisions and determine financial priorities for action.
Drones are being used in both our professional and personal lives, allowing us to access inaccessible areas more easily. DJI is the global leader in developing and manufacturing civilian drones and aerial imaging technology.
Equipping experienced sailors with this powerful resource means they will be able to capture images of the Caribbean coastline that would normally be out of reach. With DJI working hand in hand with Lagoon, the world leader in the sailing catamaran cruiser market since 1984, and AnimaMundi, it makes for a powerful alliance and brings the best of each team together.

We produce 300 million tons of plastic every year and at least 8 million tons end up in our oceans. 33,000 single-use plastic bottles are dumped in our oceans every minute of every day. This has prompted immediate action to be taken in an effort to make advances in climate change technology and combat the crisis unfolding before our eyes, in order to guarantee thriving and healthy oceans and marine life for future generations to come.
